The Canadian International School (CIS) operates across two campuses in Singapore — Tanjong Katong and Lakeside — and offers both the Cambridge IGCSE and the IB Diploma Programme. With a large student body drawn from across the international community, CIS has a reputation for strong pastoral care alongside solid academic outcomes.
IB and IGCSE at CIS
CIS students have the option to take the IB Diploma after completing Cambridge IGCSE or MYP. Those who enter the IB DP at CIS tend to be motivated students, but the dual-campus structure and large cohort mean that individual students sometimes receive less targeted subject support than they need during the critical Year 1 and Year 2 period.
The subjects where CIS students most frequently seek external tuition are IB Mathematics (AA and AI), IB Chemistry, IB Physics, IB Economics, and — for the IGCSE track — Mathematics and the triple sciences.
IB at CIS
IB Mathematics: CIS students in AA HL face the same challenges as IB HL students worldwide — the depth of calculus, the proof section, and the investigation-style Paper 3 questions. Our tutors work through past paper analysis with CIS students and focus on mark scheme literacy: understanding precisely what is required to earn each mark rather than writing more than necessary.
IB Sciences: For CIS students in Chemistry HL and Physics HL, the challenge is often the Internal Assessment and the Optional content. We support students through the IA planning and write-up process, and we revise the Option topics with structured notes and past paper questions.
IB Economics: CIS Economics students frequently struggle with the evaluation component of essay questions. Our tutors teach the specific structure that IB examiners expect: clear definitions, developed analysis, well-applied theory, and genuine evaluation that considers counterarguments.
IGCSE at CIS
For younger CIS students on the Cambridge IGCSE track, we focus on building exam technique in Mathematics and the sciences. The Extended papers require a level of precision — in both calculations and written responses — that benefits from focused external preparation.
Two Campuses, Online Access
Given that CIS operates across two campuses, we find that a majority of CIS students opt for online tuition via Zoom. This makes scheduling more flexible and eliminates travel time. Our online sessions are live and interactive — not recorded content — with real-time problem solving and feedback.
