SJI International (SJII) is an IB World School on Malcolm Road, offering the IB Diploma Programme to an international student body with a strong academic culture. The school’s emphasis on holistic development and community service sits alongside demanding academic standards — the average SJII IB score consistently sits above the global mean.
The Academic Environment at SJI International
SJII students tend to have high intrinsic motivation, but the breadth of the IB — six subjects, Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and CAS — creates time-pressure challenges even for capable students. The subjects where we most often see SJII students seeking external support are IB Mathematics (particularly AA HL), IB Chemistry HL, and IB Economics HL.
The school’s internal assessment calendar is rigorous. Draft submission windows for IAs in science and mathematics subjects typically fall in Term 3 of Year 1 and Term 1 of Year 2, meaning students need to manage multiple IA projects alongside a full subject load.
IB Mathematics at SJI International
IB Mathematics AA HL is taken by a significant portion of SJII’s higher-achieving students. The jump from MYP mathematics to AA HL is substantial — particularly in the calculus and statistics topics that form the backbone of Paper 2 and Paper 3. Our tutors work through the Mindlab-developed problem sets that mirror the style and difficulty of past IB papers, with explicit instruction on the mark scheme logic that determines whether a student earns method marks, accuracy marks, or both.
For AA SL and AI SL students, the challenge is often consistency — the ability to perform across all three papers under time pressure. We build this through timed practice and structured feedback on error patterns.
IB Chemistry and Physics at SJI International
SJII has a strong science faculty, but the depth of IB Chemistry HL — particularly in organic synthesis, acid-base equilibria, and the Options — regularly challenges students who were strong in MYP sciences. Our tutors are chemistry specialists who have worked with SJII students for many exam sessions and understand which topic combinations appear most frequently in the exam.
For IB Physics HL, Wave phenomena and the Fields option (Astrophysics or Engineering Physics) are the sections where students most often feel underprepared. We build structured revision around these high-mark areas in the months before the exam session.
Why Mindlab for SJI International Students
Mindlab International has been supporting SJII students since 2009. Our approach is deliberately exam-focused without being purely rote: we want students to understand their subjects deeply enough to handle unfamiliar question types, because IB examiners regularly include novel applications of standard concepts.
Our centre is located near Orchard Road — accessible from Malcolm Road by a short bus or MRT ride — and we also offer live online tuition for students who prefer to study from home or have a packed co-curricular schedule.
